"What makes each of our memories unique is the

subjectivity of our own remembering" (Mari Mahr)

The inspiration and motivation for my work comes from my family home in Hungary and Czechoslovakia where I was born and grew up.                  Since arriving in England in 1996, I have come to understand the importance of my cultural and emotional identity, my heart and mind are constantly drawn back to my homeland and to my family. At times I am filled with memories of my first loves, my family and especially my grandmother and of the village where I spent most of my childhood.

My work is centered on a small village and community where                   I spent most of my childhood. Sadly many people who were around me at the time are now dead . As in most small communities everyone was involved in each others lives, all of the villagers were like family to me. I wanted to look back to this time and somehow capture the essence of my memories within a still image, something I can look at and recall the memories through the still images. The memories of grape picking and wine making, I want to capture the aroma , the light and the heat, the stealing of corn from the fields, the warm nights, when all the windows are left open and I was unable to sleep because of the sound of thousand crickets.

I wanted to show the unique Eastern European village community and how this was like my extended family. I wanted to capture this in a simple and direct way so that I can recreate my memories of family and village life whilst also capturing the unique character of Eastern Europe.
